The appearance of a surface does not always identify its material. Keep references and separate residue whose origin you do not know.
A photo of a floor may show its stains without clarifying what material it is made of. Before hiring post-construction cleaning, gather the information given by the installer or supplier. A product reference usually allows a more precise enquiry than “stone-like floor”.
Prepare a record by area
Note the room, surface and available reference. You can use a list such as “Bathroom: supplier’s floor and wall materials pending confirmation; kitchen: worktop with product sheet available; living room: flooring with packaging retained”. Mark anything you have not identified as pending.
- Product reference or material data sheet, if you have it.
- Any finish or treatment applied, where known.
- Known type of residue and the building work that caused it.
- Overview and detail photos with the location specified.
Do not attribute a stain to cement, paint or adhesive if you do not know. You can describe where it appears, whether it is loose or stuck on, and who worked in that area. The company must assess what information is missing and whether it needs an on-site inspection.
Why compatibility matters
The technical data sheet for Kerakoll’s Delta Plus excludes materials whose resistance to acids is unknown. This is a limitation of that product, not a cleaning recipe: “post-construction” does not mean it is compatible with every finish.
Ask for the method to be checked against the guidance for the material and intended product. If a reference is missing, agree how to resolve that before work starts. Do not test treatments to identify the material. When comparing quotes, distinguish areas that can be assessed using the available information from residue whose treatment is still unresolved; avoid assuming its removal is guaranteed.
